Dating Stamp Machines

With stamps now costing 46 cent, you’d think that a 2 cent, 3 cent or even a 5 cent stamp machine would be very very old, maybe from the early 1900s.

Well, high stamp prices are a recent phenomenon. You could mail a letter for 2 cent until 1959 and you could mail a letter for 5 cent until 1968.

If you are buying a coin operated stamp machine and want to determine how old it is, the following chart showing the history of first class stamp rates may help.
