JENNINGS SLOT MACHINES
BOOK REVIEW

.

Collectors of Jennings slot machines now have what jukebox collectos have had for years. As many of you know, there is a jukebox service manual, operators handbook, troubleshooting guide and parts listing, all compiled into a one or two volume book for every jukebox made. Slot machine collectors, however, aren't so lucky. Every now and then someone finds a service manual for a specific slot machine and reprints it. Very few people know it is available and, after a couple of years, it is unavailable again.

But now Dick Bueschel is making our lives much easier. Dick has finished the mamouth undertaking of compiling all the service manuals, parts listings, and instruction sheets for virtually every Jennings slot machine made, and published them in a two volume set. That's right, it covers the Jennings slot machines from the early 1900s, the Goosenecks, the Victoria, the Little Duke and Duchess, the Chiefs, the consoles, and the electromechanical slots of the 1960's and 70's.

There are wiring diagrams, instructions for front vendors, publications that I've never seen before, all in one place. There are over 600 pages of instructions, listings, service hints, everything you ever wanted to know about your slot.

Not being satisfied at compiling a wealth of service information for the collector, Dick Bueschel, first and foremost a historian, added over 100 additional pages on the history of the Jennings Company and its founder O.D. Jennings.

Once again, Dick Bueschel has come up with new historical facts, never before seen photos, letters, and news clips. Dick's writing style and his ability to relate the history of coin machines to the history of the country during the 1920's, 30's, 40's, 50's, and 60's makes for especially interesting and entertaining reading. We are now at over 750 pages. Most other people would have stopped long ago.

But Dick Bueschel wants to be sure to give the reader his money's worth. . . . so he added over 30 pages of colored photos, illustrations, and flyers so you could determine the original colors of your slot. We are now up to almost 800 pages. . . too much to fit in one book. . . so we create a two volume set, appropriately entitled "An Illustrated Historical, Maintenance and Repair Guide to Jennings Mechanical and Electromechanical 3 Reel Bell Machines."

Now comes the big question. What would you charge for almost 800 pages of knowledge. A twovolume, 100 150 page compilation of service manuals and parts listings for a single jukebox costs $65 to $70. Here again Dick gives you your money's worth. You get 800 pages, in a paperback version for under $150 It's a lot of money, but you get a gold mine for your investment. Dick put in 15 years researching the material and 3 years writing. When you are ready to buy the book, Jennings Slot Machines, 1906-1990, plan a two week vacation. It is not a book that you can read in one sitting.
