Antique Slot Machines (& Trade Stimulators) from Contemporary AdvertisingMost books give pictures and a history of a category of machines and, after you have a few jukebox books or slot machine books in your library, you ask yourself if you really need another. Well, here is a really unique book. It's been around for a while, but most collectors don't even know it exists. It's called Antique Slot Machines (&Trade Stimulators) from Contemporary Advertising.

This 480 page (yes 480 pages) hardback book is a compilation of the advertisements for slot machines and trade stimulators that appeared in Billboard magazine from 1925 to 1950. The advertisements give you a good feel of how the machines were promoted and what features were most important at the time they were sold.

The worst part of the book is that many of the ads also include the machine's original price. Imagine buying slots for around $100 and trade stimulators for $1520. Since the book contains over a 1000 advertisements, it includes information on many machines that are not pictured in any other book, making it invaluable when trying to identify and date a machine.

The book, published in 1980, hasn't been recently advertised and so most collectors don't know it is still available.
