circa late 1800s. What to do with your gum if you have to take it out of your mouth? The solution was to design a piece of jewelry that you can wear around your neck that opens up to hold a chewed piece of gum.

This gum holder was made out of metal, attractively decorated on the outside, hinged so you could open it, and called a Peggy O
